I think there might be a problem with the samples LaForest is using. He's putting a lot of emphasis on these marked brass textures and insertions, and brass often doesn't work in MIDI or other virtual instruments. I guess I'm often hearing more of what LaForest was going for with his composition instead of what's actually coming out of the speakers as sound. When I restrict my imagination, the soundtrack does indeed sound pretty bad. A lot of the orchestral effects he's going for simply don't sound the way they should in reality.

In my opinion, what the soundtrack of OG is lacking is memorable melodies. Whereas I can't think of a single track in XXL1 and XXL2 that is not catchy (okay apart from the tutorial segments in XXL2 maybe ^^)
Herr Epsilon
Yeah, I was thinking that, too. His composing style in OG is a lot more subtle.
Herr Epsilon
I can see why he stopped making game soundtracks after that. He was clearly going in another direction creatively.
Herr Epsilon
Frankly, I don't think anyone would have even hired him at that point. This is not the kind of music game developers are looking for. Still, I admire the ideas he had there and I'm pretty sure that most of the music would have worked if it would've been properly orchestrated.

Obelix just loves soup

I accidentally reset the controls, which is the default pause button? :SwiftRage:
Stinkek
... It was Enter. Really? :DBstyle:
Stinkek
Just tried launching Dogmatix with both MCs. It's true that only Obelix can do that, and about 10 seconds must pass before he can attack again. But I guess it makes sense, Dogmatix is Obelix's pet...
Stinkek
AH, collectable multipliers do exist in this game, but they never simply float in the game's world. They're dropped in fights, and you have to approach them to use them.
Stinkek
... Isn't this an XXL2 map? It's useless though.
AdrienTD
Yeah, it looks like the saving point from XXL2, despite some texture downscale.
Stinkek
Quickly beated up that general (don't remember his name), he dropped a few helmets, including a gold one. Strange that gold helmets are only dropped in repeated fights
Stinkek
Sorry, Gluteus Maximus, but I have to be the one to win if I want to progress. 😩 In the comic, when this guy sees Obelix's strength, he starts looking depressed and sweeping the ground. There's a joke where he is dreaming of winning the Olympic Games, and getting a golden broom as a trophy.

Stinkek
Just checked that part again and... honestly, poor guy...
Stinkek
That chubby Roman is centurion Gaius Veriambitius. I liked him, too bad he is only in the comic.
Noxus94
Centurion "very ambitious"? xD
Stinkek
yep
Stinkek
Since Veriambitius met Vitalstatistix like this, he thought it was a Gaulish custom. So when Vitalstatistix arrived to the Roman camp, Veriambitius greeted him ||in a bathtub as well||
