yep, was just about to say that I couldn't find what I was looking for

The OG No Tages patch allows the game to be run without the disc indeed, but you need to copy all the movies to the hard disk first (as well as sound/music if not done already), otherwise the game will pause and ask you to insert the disc.

As for the cheering sounds, I think there might be a cheering ambience in the Marty's soundtracks, but not sure about the cheering sounds though.
