From the Meet the Pyro video Pyro is commonly speculated to be schizophrenic, seeing the battle field as a colourful sugary fantasy land. In the actual game when you control Pyro you see everything properly, but wearing a certain pair of goggles as any mercenary removes blood, replaces environment textures with "cute" ones, replaces pain noises with laughter and increases the pitch of everyone's voice so they sound like cartoon chipmunks.

I'm not schizophrenic, but sometimes my mind can be a great nuisance to myself... I had the coot on my mind for a whole month and ||it was a painful emotional rollercoaster. I had thoughts I'm not supposed to have... Told myself "no, stop, this isn't who I am, think about people who really matter, please please please PLEASE PLEASE"||. I'm feeling better now, I really don't wanna drop to that again... There are also real life factors that unnerve me but there's not much I can do. I also recall that as a teenager I spilled out my anger at a few friendly people who didn't do anything... I felt guilty afterwards and was quick to apologise. You know, emotional management...
