late af (it's stupid as hell how I missed this lol) but uhh yes, but actually no the Western Roman Empire died in 476/480 whereafter the Eastern Roman emperor said "well I guess that means I'm the only Roman emperor now" so then the Eastern Roman Empire _technically_ just became the Roman Empire again, and this was unchanged when Italy fell under control of the Eastern emperors, since no separate Western emperors were appointed (Tiberius II and Mauricius both tried to prop someone up to rule Italy for them, and both of them failed; in the former's case, his candidate Germanus didn't feel like it, and the latter intended for the empire to be divided between his sons, but before that could happen, a usurper overthrew them) we still call it the ERE for clarity's sake but technically speaking, the fall of the WRE just ment that the Roman Empire was reunited
